Leyden Family Services will be at Village Hall on the third Wednesday of the month to help residents who have questions or need help applying for government programs including Medicare, Medicaid, and LIHEAP. Staff can also help with understanding medical bills, prescription assistance, and more. Bring your Social Security award letter and paycheck stubs that show the amount of income you receive. Watch for Scams
If you receive something in the mail requesting the need to
have a worker conduct a test or an inspection in your home, please
review the information carefully to verify if it is really from
the Village. If you are unsure, please contact the Village at
(847) 671-4800 or call the Police Department at (847) 678-2444.
As a reminder, residents should always ask for identification
from anyone requesting access to their home. If you are
approached by an individual claiming to be a Village of
Franklin Park employee or a worker from a local utility,
make sure they have proper identification. You can also
check to see that they are driving a clearly marked Village
of Franklin Park or utility company vehicle. If something
seems suspicious or it just doesn’t “feel” right to you, please
call the Franklin Park Police Department at 847-678-2444.

Historic Steam Locomotive to Stop in Franklin Park – May 8
Canadian Pacific Kansas City's (CPKC) historic Final Spike Anniversary Tour will stop in Franklin Park on Wednesday, May 8 from 3 until 8 PM. This will be the last opportunity to view "The Empress", the restored 1930 Steam Locomotive as it makes its final run through North America. The public will be able to view the exterior of the train and learn more about the locomotive and its history. Visitors will not be allowed to board the train.
Bring the family and enjoy a fun-filled celebration of our country’s railroad heritage including the "Museum on Wheels". Children can also ride the Puffer Belly Express mini train and participate in crafting projects. There will also be vendors and displays including Operation LifeSaver.
Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to see this majestic steam locomotive in our community!

Village Will Host Memorial Day Event – May 27
Please plan to attend the Village’s annual Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 27 at 11 AM at the Veterans Monument, west of Village Hall. The event, co-sponsored with the American Legion Post 974, will pay tribute to our deceased Franklin Park veterans from all branches of service and will feature an honor guard, a ceremonial presentation of the memorial wreath, and more. For information, contact the Mayor’s Office at (847) 671-8236. Watch for updates about a location change in case of inclement weather.
Leyden High School District is celebrating its 100th anniversary next year and is looking for memorabilia including pictures, videos, audio clips, letters, journals, newspaper clippings, and just about anything else are considered artifacts and are valuable to the telling of Leyden's story. If you have artifacts, please submit them for consideration to the Leyden Archives. Pollinator Day Event - May 18
The Village of Franklin Park will host its first annual Pollinator Day on Saturday, May 18, from 11 AM until 1:30 PM at the Gazebo on Belmont. Bring the family and learn how to help pollinators thrive in your garden and enjoy honey samples and informational displays about bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds, and other insects and animals. Sponsored by the Village of Franklin Park Tree Preservation Board and the Bee Committee Village of Franklin Park, a Bee City USA. Summer Jobs Are Available with the Village
The Village of Franklin Park is accepting applications for our part-time Summer Youth Program. Office and laborer positions are available. The program begins May 1 and ends September 30. The salary is $12 per hour if you are under the age of 18 and $15 per hour if you are 18 years or older. Utility Work Underway Around the Town
Throughout the year you may see routine utility work around town including in Village streets and parkways. This work could be related to fiber optic lines for cable, including AT&T, Comcast, and other phone providers, ComEd, and Nicor. If the parkway is disrupted, the landscaping will be replaced when the work is complete. If you have questions or concerns, please call (847) 671-8245.

Community Garden Space Available – Reserve Now
Now is the time to reserve your spot in the Village’s Community Garden, located between the Veteran’s Memorial and Village Hall on Belmont Avenue. The Community Garden provides raised bed planting boxes and is open to residents interested in growing flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Please call Andy Smolen at 847-708-2963 if you are interested in learning more or to reserve a growing space. Space is limited so reserve now. Please note that if you reserve a space, you must commit to regularly maintaining and weeding the area. There is a one box per family limit.

Help Keep Our Community Clean and Tidy
The Village has been working to deter rodent activity and has retained Orkin to set and regularly maintain more than 350 bait boxes throughout town. We need your help to eliminate sources of food and hiding places on and around your property.
- Tightly close trash can lids and do not put trash bags on the ground. Keep the area around your trash cans free of trash, food scraps, and spills. If you would like to rent an additional trash can from Republic Services, please call the Village for more information at (847) 671-8258.
- Maintain a clean front and backyard and remove clutter around your home. This includes firewood stacks, brush, debris, and dense shrubbery. Firewood should be elevated off the ground.
- Clean-up after your pet during walks and IMMEDIATELY in your own backyard. Dog waste is a major food supply for rodents.
- Do not leave pet food or water bowls outside. DO NOT feed birds or any other wildlife.
If you feel you have a problem near your property, ask Orkin service workers when they are in your area to assess the situation in your yard. Please DO NOT tamper with Orkin’s bait boxes or move them into your backyard. DO NOT throw the bait boxes in the trash. If you are disabled or elderly and need assistance complying, please call (847) 671-4800. Also, if you see properties that need to be maintained, please call the Village.
