Help Keep Our Community Clean and Tidy

The Village has been working to deter rodent activity and has retained Orkin to set and regularly maintain more than 350 bait boxes throughout town. We need your help to eliminate sources of food and hiding places on and around your property.

Tightly close trash can lids and do not put trash bags on the ground. Keep the area around your trash cans free of trash, food scraps, and spills. If you would like to rent an additional trash can from Republic Services, please call the Village for more information at (847) 671-8258.

- Maintain a clean front and backyard and remove clutter around your home. This includes firewood stacks, brush, debris, and dense shrubbery. Firewood should be elevated off the ground.

- Clean-up after your pet during walks and IMMEDIATELY in your own backyard. Dog waste is a major food supply for rodents.

- Do not leave pet food or water bowls outside. DO NOT feed birds or any other wildlife.

If you feel you have a problem near your property, ask Orkin service workers when they are in your area to assess the situation in your yard. Please DO NOT tamper with Orkin’s bait boxes or move them into your backyard. DO NOT throw the bait boxes in the trash. If you are disabled or elderly and need assistance complying, please call (847) 671-4800. Also, if you see properties that need to be maintained, please call the Village.

Don’t Let Severe Weather Take You By Surprise

Last July, the western suburbs were overwhelmed with nine inches of rain in a short period of time resulting in over 10,000 basements being flooded. Fortunately, Franklin Park was spared from this storm, but only by a very short distance.

Climatologists predict that these types of super storms that produce intense downpours with little warning are becoming more prevalent. That means it is likely that a storm of this magnitude will hit Franklin Park soon, causing millions of dollars of damage for homeowners as it did last July.

There is no amount of storm water management that will protect us from storms of this magnitude. The best defense is to prepare your home now before these super storms arrive. Remove rugs and carpeting from the basement floor. Pick up anything you have on the floor of your basement and place the items on shelves. Relocate valuables to another floor of your home. Industry experts advise that sump pumps and emergency power flood control systems should be changed every 7 to 10 years so check to see how old your system is and determine if it is in good working condition. Regularly clean your gutters and downspouts.

It is not a matter of “if” we will experience a massive storm that floods our basements, it is matter of “when.” We cannot control the weather, but we can act now to prepare for a super storm, starting with removing things from the basement floor.

2024 Street Repaving Program Announced

This summer, work will take place to upgrade and improve our Village streets, curbs, and gutters. Street improvements, whether it is on your block, or across town, will positively impact home values throughout the entire community. Well-maintained streets are important to the safety and quality of life of our residents and are essential to a business’ ability to operate in our Village.

Like many mature communities, many of Franklin Park’s streets need renovation. The Village's 2024 Street Program prioritized streets identified as the most in need of repair:

Lincoln St. from Minneapolis Ave. to Schiller Blvd.

Ernst St. from Franklin Ave. to Grand Ave.

Dora St. from Franklin Ave. to Grand Ave.

Intersection of Scott St. and Belmont Ave.

Schiller Blvd. from Scott St. to Rose St.

You can view the map that includes the Village’s five-year plan for streets to be repaved here: Street resurfacing map

She’s Back!

I am pleased to announce that Dafne Henriquez has joined the Village as the Assistant Village Engineer. Dafne served as my Assistant for several years while attending school to study civil engineering. She left the Village in 2022 to attend school full time at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she graduated with a BS in Engineering late last year. Dafne is a shining example of how hard work, determination, and commitment pay off. We are all happy to have her back with the Village.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Fest on June 6 – 9. Please see the flyer for details and the lineup of musical entertainment. Click for the Fest Flyer
