Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

Income eligible residents may file for help with winter home heating bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Applications are being taken at Village Hall on Wednesday evenings from 4:00pm - 6:30pm starting December 2, 2009.

LIHEAP provides a one-time payment to the utility companies on behalf of recipients. In addition to seniors, LIHEAP is open to persons and/or households with disabled members who receive SSI and SSDI benefits.

Please bring the following documents in order to file for benefits: Social Security card, a photo ID card, current NICOR bill, current COM ED bill, proof of gross income for 30 days, including your 2009 Social Security letter.

Reminder - Winter Season Parking Restrictions

Now that the Chicagoland area is beginning to experience the first snowfalls of the winter season, the Village would like to remind all residents to please check and follow the parking restrictions on the blue snow route signs.

The parking restrictions go into effect when it snows 2 inches or more or when snow is anticipated for the area. We ask that all residents follow the snow route parking instructions. It allows our plow trucks to clean the streets quickly to make travel safer, and you will avoid receiving a ticket.

If you have any questions, please contact the Franklin Park Police Department’s non-emergency number at (847) 671-8270.

Reminder - Winter Refuse Collection

Residents and building owners are reminded to please clear snow away from refuse and recycling containers to avoid a missed collection. If the container is not accessible, it will not be emptied.

While Republic Services' drivers will continue to make every effort to maintain service whatever the conditions, the cooperation of all residents and building owners is always appreciated!

2010 Census: April 1, 2010

Every ten (10) years, residents of our nation are counted in the Census as mandated by the U.S. Constitution. Census data is used to determine community services and distribute federal funds and Congressional seats to states. An accurate count is vital to continuing local and state services and proper Congressional representation: funding and representation are lost if an accurate count is not achieved. All personal information shared during the Census is protected by federal law: Census takers are merely on a mission to achieve an accurate count. In the coming months, information regarding the Census will be available at various Village events and on this website.

Please check back for updates.

Important Notice – Smoke Alarm Recall

If you have a Kidde dual sensor smoke alarm, check the model number, because it might not work when you need it to.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stated that Walter Kidde Portable Equipment Inc. is recalling the Kidde Model PI2000 Dual Sensor Smoke Alarms because they could fail to warn of a fire. About 94,000 units are involved in the recall.

The CPSC said the alarms can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. The model being recalled has two buttons: one labeled "HUSH" and the other "PUSH AND HOLD TO TEST WEEKLY." They are on the front of the unit.

Only those with date codes from Aug. 1, 2008 through May 4, 2009 are subject to the recall. The model number and manufacture date are on the rear of the alarms. The Chinese-made alarms were sold nationwide from August through May for $30 to $40.

Having both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarm sensors is ideal since one is more sensitive to flames and the other to smoke. To resolve the problem, Kidde will replace the recalled alarms for free.

Call Kidde at (877) 524-2086 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time or go to the company's website.
